JBIG2 COMPRESSION WITHIN IMAGXPRESS™ NOW OFFERED BY PEGASUS IMAGING

TAMPA, FL, February 7, 2005 - Pegasus Imaging, the world leader in image compression, today delivers lossy and lossless JBIG2 compression for ImagXpress™. Developers can now compress and decompress industry standard JBIG2 images within ImagXpress, the comprehensive imaging toolkit, through a .NET, COM, or VCL interface. Achieve both lossless and lossy compression of bitonal images that is visually equivalent to the original images, with higher compression ratios than G3/G4 TIFF. ImagXpress developers will now be able to use JBIG2 compression within PDF to minimize PDF file sizes.

The ImagXpress JBIG2 Add On is ideal for document imaging applications requiring the advanced compression technology delivered through the JBIG2 standard. It strictly adheres to the ISO/ITU JBIG2 specification and provides higher compression ratios for lossy and lossless compression of bitonal images. Pegasus Imaging's team of research scientists, who specialize in imaging and compression technologies, developed the JBIG2 compression technology.

JBIG2 compression can be evaluated within the latest ImagXpress trial download. Using ImagXpress Professional, developers can build applications with image viewing, editing, printing, powerful TWAIN scanning, fully programmable annotations, redaction, multi-page TIFF and PDF, file format conversion, and more. A comprehensive set of image processing functions is provided, with the fastest processing speeds available. ImagXpress Professional provides anti-aliasing, deskew, despeckle, crop, rotate, video frame capture support, multiple image scaling algorithms, advanced scrollbar, auto size, and merging capabilities.

ImagXpress can be used in conjunction with a variety of other products, including SmartScan Xpress™ Barcode, SmartScan Xpress™ ICR/OCR/OMR, ISIS® Xpress™, ScanFix®, and FormFix® to develop document imaging, forms processing, records management, check processing applications, and more.

Pegasus Imaging's JBIG2 compression is also available within the low-level C/C++ PICTools JBIG2 product. The release of the ImagXpress JBIG2 Add On now offers a powerful, easy to use option to developers working in visual development environments such as VB.NET, C#, VB, or Delphi.
