BARCODE XPRESS VERSION 5 RELEASED BY PEGASUS IMAGING |
| TAMPA, FL, SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 – Pegasus® Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of digital imaging technology, today announced Barcode Xpress™ v5 is available to customers. Barcode Xpress is designed to support document capture, indexing, archiving, and process automation applications. It is a .NET and ActiveX toolkit that locates barcodes anywhere on a page, decodes barcodes, reports the content, reports recognition confidence values, and also writes barcodes. The new version adds recognition of QR Code and 3 new postal codes, improves the 1D and 2D barcode recognition accuracy rates, and provides streaming support to integrate with Pegasus Imaging’s FormSuite components. Barcode Xpress v5 introduces recognition support for the 2-dimensional (2D) barcode QR Code, one of very few barcode types that support encoding of Asian Kanji and Kana characters. QR code also offers up to 30% error recovery, making this especially suitable for business-critical applications. The United States Postal Service (USPS) has adopted a new 4-state barcode called Intelligent Mail® (formerly OneCode®) that Barcode Xpress will now recognize. It includes more address information than the current postal codes. More information about the new USPS postal barcode can be found at the USPS Web site. Barcode Xpress will also now recognize the Royal Mail 4-state Customer Code (RM4SCC), a new 4-state barcode being used in the U.K. The Australia Post variant of the 4-state Postal Code is also recognized now. Pegasus Imaging’s scientists have improved the recognition accuracy, to recognize more 1D and 2D barcodes than Version 4 recognized. The barcode recognition process has been improved by extending the mathematical algorithms used for barcode detection, and extending the process used to refine and verify candidate barcodes. Barcode Xpress now provides streaming support to integrate with Pegasus Imaging’s FormSuite, a collection of components that perform a variety of forms processing functions, including form identification and optical character recognition. The new application programmer interface allows Barcode Xpress to be more easily integrated into applications built using components in FormSuite. SmartScan Xpress Barcode has been renamed Barcode Xpress to coincide with the release of Version 5. The product has evolved with the new launch, and the name change is consistent with Pegasus Imaging’s product naming strategy.
